Adeline Maret was the daughter of John Mattison and Martha Austin Maret, one of twelve children. Her family traveled by covered wagon between their home in Maysville,MO and WYO many times. Her father furnished meat for the government and the family sometimes traveled with him. Adeline was a great storyteller and entertained her great grandchildren with tales of traveling by covered wagon, meeting indians, etc. In 1883, on one of their trips between MO and WYO, her family was forced to spend the winter in a grain silo when several of the children came down with measles near Western, NE. Her parents decided to take up residence in Western and there she met and married Jesse Thornburg, Dec. 12, 1888. Jesse and Adeline raised nine children near Western, NE, where they lived their entire married life.
