Mary was raised and educated in Charles Mix County and Gregory County. She graduated from Gregory High School in Gregory, SD in 1939. She was united in marriage to Harm H. Bruns on October 10, 1940. To this union four children were born; Eleanor, Lawrence, Paul and Gene. Harm and Mary bought a farm south of Colome in 1942. She lived on the farm until Harm's death in 1981.
Mary was a teacher in many of the area country schools. She also worked on her farm until she was no longer able to continue. The last few years she lived at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Wagner, SD.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Harm, two sisters; Emily Sundland and Blanche Matousek and three brothers; Frank, John and Joe Hauzer.
She leaves to mourn her passing her four children; Eleanor (Bill) Overbeck of Miami, FL, Paul of Winner, SD, Lawrence (Myra) of Humble, TX and Gene (LeAnn) of Colome, SD, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and relatives.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Colome Cemetery in Colome, SD.
