Thelma Juanita “Patty” Kelley-Smith, of Van Buren, Missouri departed this life November 11, 2015 in the Riverways Manor Nursing Home in Van Buren. She had attained the age of eighty-seven years, two months and nine days.

Patty was born on September 2, 1928 in Russell, Arkansas to Archie Alfred and Aretha Isabelle (McNinch) Gadberry. She was a longtime resident of Van Buren and formerly resided in Nixa, Missouri. She served as Deputy County Clerk and Deputy County Tax Collector for several years. She owned and operated the Eastwood Store then later went to work and retire from “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” where she made more than 13 ½ tons of fudge within an eight year time frame; they still use her recipe to this day in Granny Smith’s Fudge. She was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church. She was a strong and good-hearted woman as long you agreed with her.

In 1948 she was united in marriage to Casper “Glenn” Kelley. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1987.

She is also survived by her son, Gilbert James “Gill” Kelley of Derby, Kansas; one special friend that was like a daughter, Lois Hugghins of Texas; five grandchildren, Jason, Chuck, Cindy, J.D. and Sissy; several great grandchildren; three siblings, Billy Joe Gadberry, wife Quindola of Puxico, Jimmie Sue Marchbank, husband John of Van Buren, and Mike Gadberry, wife Mickie of Sikeston and numerous other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her mother and father, Archie and Isabelle Gadberry, Patty is preceded in death by six siblings, Dorris Dixon, Doy Faye Gadberry, Sherion Joan Ward, Coy Ray Gadberry, Betty Gadberry and Barbara Grubb.

Visitation is set for Monday, November 16, 2015 at McSpadden funeral home starting at 11:00 a.m. for the public and funeral to start at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow in the Van Buren City Cemetery.
