Born in Newport, RI on February 21, 1947, he was the son of the late Bernard Joseph "Bernie" Ebbitt and A. Ruth (Silvia) Ebbitt.
Mr. Ebbitt attended St. Augustine's grammar school and was a 1965 graduate of De La Salle Academy in Newport. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1970. He was an employee of Sandra Liotus Lighting Design in Newport, RI at the time of his passing.
Bernard is survived by his mother, A. Ruth Ebbitt and his sister Mary Ann Ebbitt, both of Middletown, RI, his sister Deborah S. Ebbitt (McCarthy) and her husband Scott L. McCarthy and his nieces Kelsey Ebbitt and Ariel Ebbitt McCarthy all of Tiverton, RI.
Mr. Ebbitt was an avid ham radio operator having received his general class license at the age of 11. He was a member of the Newport County Radio Club under the call letters of K1MCT.
Calling hours were held today, April 15, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a remembrance service immediately following at 11 a.m. at the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, Bristol, RI.
