Marjorie Ruth (Kandt) Auer-Hammond, of Augusta, Kansas was born April 22, 1924 on the family farm in the Shadybrook Community, rural Herington, Kansas the daughter of Fredrick "Fred" and Sophia (Schlesener) Kandt. She passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in Augusta, Kansas. Marjorie graduated from Woodbine High School with the class of 1942. In August of 1942 she went to work at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas in the payroll department. She began volunteering in 1972 in the Augusta Hospital, Veterans Administration, Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Hypatia Club and planned 25 bus trips. Marjorie was a lifelong member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Augusta, Kansas. On April 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Hobart Auer. They later divorced. On March 11, 1966 she married Maurice Hammond. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Roy Kandt, sisters Rose Bernhardt and Mabel Hendricks. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, two sons, two stepdaughters, stepson, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Marjorie will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington. Friends may sign the register book Monday after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Her final resting place will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in the Shadybrook Community rural Herington, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery Fund or to the organization of the donor's choice and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, 106 N. 2nd, Hope, Kansas 67451.
