Pleasant Ellis Curry, named for his maternal grandfather Pleasant Moore Ellis, eldest s. of Joshua Massey Curry and Margaret Ann Ellis (Pleasant M.,3 Jesse,2 James,1), b. Dec. 19, 1858 at Coles County, IL. He d. Aug. 19, 1930 at Topeka, KS (g.s.)

Between 1870 and 1880 Pleasant accompanied his parent's from Illinois to Carbondale in Osage County, which adjoins Topeka, KS to its south. At Carbondale in the 1880 census the Joshua M. Curry family was enumerated five households after the family that included son Pleasant's subsequent wife, Lydia Louise Mangold, dau. of the deceased Philip Mangold and his widow Sarah, b. 1862 at Scott County, MO.

Pleasant and Lydia m. at Carbondale by late 1882, their first child, s. Francis Henry Curry, b. there in Aug. 1883. By 1894 Pleasant and Lydia moved to Topeka where they spent the remainder of their lives. They had five acknowledged children, one not of record having d. in infancy prior to 1894. The four surviving children are:

• i. Francis Henry Curry, b. Aug. 13, 1883 at Carbondale, KS, d. Mar. 4, 1943 at Bakersfield, CA (g.s.); m. Jan. 1, 1907, Anna May Richardson, dau. of unknown parents, b. Feb. 17, 1881 at Kansas. She d. Sept. 25, 1961 at Bakersfield, CA (g.s.) During the 1920s Francis was a trainmaster at Emporia, KS for the Atchison Topeka & Sante Fe R.R. (the AT&SF) headquartered at Topeka, KS. By 1930 Francis had relocated to Bakersfield where he was a railroad claims adjuster. Two known children of the family, both b. at Kansas.

• ii. William Ellis Curry, b. Nov. 19, 1885 at Carbondale, KS, d. Aug. 13, 1923 at Wichita, KS but is interred in the Curry family plot at Topeka (g.s.); m. May 8, 1912 Mabel Lee Wolf. Following WWI, in the 1920 census William and Mabel were residing at Wichita where he was the proprietor of a confectionery store. There are no known children of the marriage. Following William's death, by 1940 Mabel had m. an unidentified Kelly and she is likely the Mabel Curry Kelley who d. in 1872 and interred in the Curry family plot at Topeka.

• iii. Lola Curry, b. May. 17, 1894 at Topeka, KS, where she d. Jan. 18, 1990 (g.s.); m. Sept. 9, 1923 at Topeka, John McConnell Williams, the only known child of Ira C. Williams and Nettie McConnell. He was b. Oct. 5, 1893 at Topeka where he d. Dec. 25, 1988 (g.s.) John was a longtime attorney who practiced at Topeka. Two children of the family.

• iv. Ralph Torrence Curry, b. Aug. 18, 1899 at Topeka, KS, d. Dec. 20, 1961 while hospitalized at San Benito, TX (g.s.); m. 1) Aug. 9, 1924 at Lindsborg, KS, Netta Elizabeth Dubbs, dau. of Louis Burdette Dubbs and Mollie Curtis. She was b. May 14, 1900 at Ranson, KS and d. Dec. 11, 1990 at Hutchinson, KS. Two children of the marriage, twins Jack J. and Joe J. Curry. At an unknown date, Ralph m. 2) an Adelle, the informant at his death in 1961 who also ordered his WWI veteran's gravestone.
