Mrs. Lila Barnett, Sr., 79, died this morning at 6:00 a.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank J. Barnett. She had suffered a stroke on Aug. 9.
Mrs. Barnett was born in Hamel township, Aug. 10, 1886. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah Judy Davis. Her grandfather, the late Col. Thos. Judy was one of the first settlers of Edwardsville. On August 19, 1880, she was married in Hamel township to Edward Barnett, who died on Nov. 16, 1917.
Mrs. Barnett is survived by one son, Edward I. Barnett, of Edwardsville, and a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Bartling, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Her eldest son, Ray, a veteran of World War I, died two years ago. A daughter, Hazel, died in infancy. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mrs. Jennice Bartling Meyer of Muskogee, Okla.; Mrs. Geraldine Bartling Dochterman of Casper, Wyo.; Lt. Edward R. Barnett of Mayo General Hospital, Galesburg; and Miss Betty Ann Barnett, of Edwardsville. One brother, Russell Judy Davis, of Mt. Pleasant, Tex.; and three sisters, Mrs. Charles O. Lide, Mrs. Claude Mason, of Mt. Pleasant, Tex., and Mrs. Frank J. Barnett, of Edwardsville, also survive. Another sister, Mrs. Robert McKee, passed away in 1935.
Mrs. Barnett was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Ladies' Aid society.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Presbyterian church. Rev. C.L. Attig will officiate. The body will be at the Marks-Weber funeral home until noon Thursday, when it will be taken to the church. Burial will be at the Quercus Grove cemetery.
