John Sherman Skidmore, age 83, passed away on November 3, 2015 at his residence in Jeffersonville, KY. Born on North Fork in Powell County, he was the son of the late Green and Bertha Clay Sheffield Skidmore. He was an Army Veteran who served during the Korean War in Germany and France and he was a retired carpenter with Keith Builders. Sherman was an excellent fiddle player who performed with Bill Monroe and several others and he was a member of Kentucky Friends of the Bluegrass. He was an avid gardener who received a degree from Herbert W. Armstrong College in Biblical Studies on August 19, 2014. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Swartz Skidmore; three brothers: Roy Skidmore, Roscoe Skidmore and Shelby Skidmore; five sisters: Daisy Baker, Maizie Carter, Ruby Napier, Lulabelle Wilson and Waveline Pitts and one grandson, J. J. Mullins. Sherman Skidmore is survived by one son, John Skidmore and his wife Karen of Clay City; four daughters: Joan Skidmore Willoughby of Jeffersonville, Ginnie Maynard and her husband Johnny of Stanton, Margie Skidmore of Stanton and Kate Skidmore (Bill Back) of Jeffersonville; one brother, Jimmy Skidmore of Stanton; a sister in law, Imogene Skidmore of Means; 14 grandchildren: Jamie Greene (Jamie) Skidmore, Greg Skidmore, Tony Clay Willoughby, Kelly Maynard, Landen Skidmore, Kelli (Keenan) Clarke, Whitney Walters, Erin Skidmore, Nickie (Chris) Baber, Kristen Trent, Shawnda Maynard, Allison Trent, Brianna Trent and Mackenzie Rogers along with 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Stephen Donithan and Jarrett Rose will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Visitation begins at 5:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Skidmore Cemetery, North Fork Road, Stanton, KY. Active pallbearers are Jamie Skidmore, Kelly Maynard, Johnny Maynard, Bill Back, Joe Trent, Tony Clay Willoughby, Gary Russell Skidmore and David Lee Skidmore. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Baber, Landen Skidmore and Gaven Skidmore.
