Levi Mordecai Carter was my grandfather. His father, Mordecai Carter, died a few months after Levi was born. In 1886, Levi's mother, Elizabeth Ann Adams Carter, took her six children and moved to Decatur County, Kansas. She married Edward Howell in 1896.
Levi married Lillian Blakesley on June 1, 1908. They had five sons: Wayne, Gareld, LaVelle (my father), Darrel and Merald. Gareld died young and is buried in the Jennings Cemetery.
