John Amundsen, Sr., age 71 of Fosston and formerly from Mahnomen, MN passed away on Saturday, November 7th at his home in Fosston under the care of hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13th, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with Jeanne Rains officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages on condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.

John Melvin Amundsen was born on August 21, 1944 in Reseda, California to parents Stanley and Mary Jane Mouere Amundsen. He grew up and went to school in California.

He was united in marriage to Donna Donaldson on July 5, 1969 at the Tabernacle in Venice, California. The lived in Simi Valley, California until 1975 when they moved their family to Mahnomen, Minnesota. John and Donna raised their family in Mahnomen and John worked for the Shooting Star Casino for eight years.

After Donna passed away, John moved to Erskine, Minnesota and lived with his son, John, Jr. He moved to Fosston in 2010 after the passing of his son, John, Jr. and resided with his daughter, Rocksann.

John enjoyed watching the Vikings, playing cards, and watching a good western movie. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his children, Rocksann (Derek) Weiby of Fosston, Alicia Boisse of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jim Boisse of Erskine; grandchildren, Michael Larsen, Anthony Larsen, Stephanie Amundsen-Safar, Christopher, Sarah and Leon Winter, Kimberly Boisse, Joseph Rivera and Julia Urdahl; great grandchildren, Jason Habedank Winter, Raylan Amundsen-Safar, Laney Marie Amundsen-Safar, Max Urdahl, Weston Horn, and Shantae Horn; daughter-in-law, Linda Amundsen of Thief River Falls, MN; and nephews, Olin Amundsen of Las Vegas, NV and Bradley Amundsen of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Donna Marie Amundsen; daughter, Mary Ann “Colleen” Horn Amundsen; son, John Amundsen, Jr.; his parents; and his brother, Stan.

Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Kalinoski, Jesse Anderson, Quenten Anderson, Ambrose Anderson, Sonny Sauice, Kenneth Yost & John’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
