Eph Blizzard was a farmer, and in many ventures was a partner with his brother Edgar. Both brothers had the same middle name after Dr. Edgar T. Simms of Moulton, Alabama, who delivered both of them, although Eph evidently chose to spell the name Sims, as evidenced by his World War I draft registration card. After coming to Mississippi, and as they grew into young men, they decided to differentiate between their identical initials by Edgar going by and signing as E. Blizzard, while Eph would go by and sign E.S. Blizzard. I am spelling Eph's nickname as he signed it on his World War I draft registration card, in spite of the different spelling on his marker. Also noted is that his marker shows 1880 as the year of his birth. However, when the census taker asked his mother in 1880 how old he was, she gave his age as two. In addition, his draft registration card shows his birthdate as above - 1878.
