DEATH OF A. G. MCGUFFIN
Adam Givens McGuffin, 86 years of aged, died Friday morning at 8:30, at the home of his son, S. B. McGuffin, on Selma boulevard. He is survived by two sons, R. G. McGuffin, of Warm Springs, and S. B. McGuffin, of Staunton, A stepson, John H. Mackey, of Monterey, also survives, together with nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted , from the residence of his son on Selma boulevard this morning at 9:20. The Rev. Dr. William C. White, of Churchville; the Rev. Dr. A. M. Frazer of the Staunton First Presbyterian church, and the Rev. R. L. St. Clair, of the Staunton Second church, will be in charge of the services. The funeral procession will have the residence at 2:30 this morning for Warm Springs. Services will be held at the Presbyterian church there at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. McGuffin was born on Feb. 25 1841, at Warm Springs. He was a Confederate veteran, having enlisted in the Volunteers of '61. He was a member of Company E, 25th Virginia infantry, and was later made lieutenant of this company. Lieutenant McGuffin was made a prisoner by the Federal forces at Rich Mountain in 1861, but was exchanged soon afterward. He was a member of the "Stonewall Brigade," and was with General Jackson in his Valley campaign. He was with General Lee at the surrender of the Confederate leader at Appomattox in 1865. Mr. McGuffin was proprietor of the Bolar Springs from 1879 to 1913. Since 1914 he had made his home with his son in Staunton, where his death occurred yesterday. He was a member of the Presbyterian churches at Warm Springs and at Stony Run for the greater part of his life.

Residence Bath County VA; a 20 year-old Laborer.
Enlisted on 6/6/1861 at Bath Court House, VA., he was commissioned into Captain William D. Ervin's Company "Bath Grays", 25th Virginia Infantry, as a 2nd Lieutenant. [This company subsequently became (1st) Company G, 25th Virginia Infantry.]
Wounded In Action 7/11/1861 in Battle of Rich Mountain, WV.; POW (Company G surrendered there) 7/13/1861; Paroled there 7/17/1861; (1st) Company G, 25th Virginia Infantry, was broken up after capture and Parole; he was transferred into (1st) Company I while still POW; exchanged 8/13/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA.
(1st) Company I assigned to 62nd Virginia Mounted Infantry as (2nd) Company A on 1/25/1863.
Enlisted (date not given), he was mustered into Company E, 46th Battalion Virginia Cavalry.
Elected/promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, Commanding, 11/11/1863.
Present on 12/13/1863 - 8/31/1864 Roll.
Absent, With Leave Sept & Oct 1864 Roll.
The 46th & 47th Battalions Virginia Cavalry were merged 2/9/1865, forming the 26th Regiment Virginia Cavalry; Company E remained Company E.

Postwar he was a carpenter residing in Healing Springs; then lived in Boling Spring 1879-1913. Next lived in Staunton, VA.; proprietor and farmer.

On 11/5/1919, age 78, as a carpenter living Healing Springs, he applied for a total disability Confederate Soldier Pension due to "old age". He was approved for $75 per annum.

- MR. McGUFFIN'S FUNERAL -
Funeral services for Adam Givens McGuffin, 86 years of age, who died Friday morning at the home of his son, S.B. McGuffin, on Selma Boulevard, were conducted this morning from the residence at 9:30. The Rev. William C. White, D.D, of Churchville; the Rev. A.M. Fraser, D.D., pastor of the Staunton First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. R.L. St. Clair, pastor of the Staunton Second Church, conducted the services.
Hymns used were "Rock of Ages," "My Faith Looks Up To Thee," and "How Firm a Foundation."
The funeral procession left the residence at 2:00 this afternoon for Warm Springs. Services will be held at the Presbyterian church there at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. The News Leader (Staunton, Virginia), Sunday, June 26, 1927.

The 26th Cavalry Regiment was formed in December, 1864, by consolidating the 46th and 47th Battalions Virginia Cavalry. The unit was active in various conflicts in the Shenandoah Valley. It disbanded during the spring of 1865.
