Accidental Death of George M. Ping
George Ping, 78, Gallatin valley rancher, was instantly killed in a railroad crossing accident Sunday morning. His car was completely demolished by the long freight train.
An inquest was held at eight o'clock last night at the courthouse by Lovitt I. Westlake, coroner. The jurors brought in the following verdict: That said George M. Ping met his death at a crossing approximately one half mile east of Belgrade, Gallatin Co, Montana, at approx. 2:15 a.m. October 29, 1944, due to an unavoidable accidental collision with the Northern Pacific Railroad freight locomotive No. 51012 and the said George M. Ping's automobile.
Mr. Ping was born Dec. 26, 1866 in Somerset, KY, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ping. On March 21, 1899 he was married to Mary Catherine Herrin at Somerset. They came to Gallatin Valley in 1898 where he has been engaged in ranching three miles west of Story Siding. His wife preceded him in death in 1942.
Surviving are: Harland Ping, Bozeman, Lee Ping, Pocatello, Id., Mrs. Emmett (Bessie) Corwin, Mrs. Harry (Myrtle) Barber, Mrs. Lou (Pauline) Richter, all of San Francisco, Calif.; and eight grandchildren and one brother, Ross, of Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at the Dokken chapel this afternoon at 2:30. Remains will lie in state until time of service. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cem.
