Amelia Betsey Child was born on September 7, 1835, in Hammond, St. Sawrence Co., New York. She married James Sheffield Maxson on December 18, 1859. Six children were born to their union: Lovanthia Maxson (1860), Julia Bell Maxson (1862), Mary A. Maxson (1865), John Child Maxson (1867), Sarah Lucinda Maxson (1869) and Gertrude Altana Maxson (1874). All the children were born in Lima Township, Rock Co., Wisconsin; except the last daughter, Gertrude, who was born in Kansas.

Amelia died on November 19, 1896, in Erie, Kansas and was buried in Oak Wood Cemetery in Parsons, Labette Co., Kansas.
