Richard was the son of Charles Goldsmith and Martha Briggs. He married Fannie Beck on March 9, 1888 in Lincoln, IL. They were the parents of Herbert, Lawrence, Mildred, Ruby, Ruth, and Roland.


Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - February 21, 1952 - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Hughes Funeral home for R.Y Goldsmith, who passed away Wednesday, Feb 13. in a local hospital. Dr C.C. Richardson officiated. Mrs. Morton Hughes sang two numbers and accompanied herself at the piano. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery. Bearers were George Mack, Charles Spooner, W.A. Myers, M.M. Mandeville, Wendell Edson, and Claude Divins.

Ricard Yates Goldsmith was born near Lincoln, IL., on August 2, 1864. He was one of 12 children. His early years were spent in Logan county.

On March 9, 1888, Mr Goldsmith was married to Fannie Beck of Lincoln. The new home was made near there. In September, 1896, they went by covered wagon to Scotland county, Missouri, where they resided until February, 1914, when they moved to Storm Lake.

Six children were born to the Goldsmith family: Herbert, Lawrence, Mildred, Ruby, Ruth, and Roland.

In recent years Mr Goldsmith has made his home at thc Swallum hospital and he passed away there Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 11 days.

He is survived by five children: Herbert, Lawrence, Mildred (Mrs Shields), all of Milwaukee, Wis.; Ruby, (Mrs. Akers) of Cherokee; and Ruth (Mrs. Rowe) of Storm Lake. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 28, 1931, and by a son, Roland, in March, 1943. One granddaughter, Mrs, Pearl Muza of Chicago, passed away just a week ago.

Mr Goldsmith will be missed by his many loved ones and friends. He was a faithful member of Lakeside Presbyterian church.
