James Sidney Stockard, 96, a pioneer resident of this community, died Sunday at the Excelsior Springs Hospital, after a long illness. Born July 17, 1851 in Ray County, the son of Wm. Stockard and Cornelia Whitsell Stockard, natives of Kentucky.
He spent his life in this vicinity, living for a number of years in Excelsior Springs.
He followed his trade as a painter, until his retirement several years ago.
He was a member of the Christian Union Church.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Julia A. Thomson of Lawson; eight nieces; 14 nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted yesterday at the Prichard Funeral Home at Excelsior Springs, by Rev. Carney Swafford. Burial was in the Union Cemetery.
