Aristide Joseph B. Hamelin was born on 13 Feb, 1847 to Felix Peter Hamelin and Anita Palmas (or Palmer) in Pensacola, Florida.

His siblings are:
Clementine Frances Hamelin 1853 – 1902 m. Joseph Eliseus Johnson
Charles H Hamelin 1855 – 1912 m. Rosine J Biron
Claire A Hamelin 1857 – 1912 m. Randolph C. Evans)
Alice Hamelin 1857 –
Marie Victorine Hamelin 1865 – 1943 (did not marry). "Aunt Marie" stayed in touch with Aristide's children Edmund and Toulmin. She lived in Mobile not far from them.

Aristide Hamelin's marriage to Amante Gaines ended in divorce in about 1869. Hamelin's sons Edmund and Marion Toulmin (he was called "Toulmin") were raised by Amante's parents Dr. Edmund Pendleton and Mary Jane Toulmin Gaines of Mobile, Alabama and their Hamelin surname was replaced by their mother's Gaines maiden surname.

Children of Aristide Hamelin and Amante Gaines:

Edmund Pendleton Gaines was born 25 Feb 1868 in Mobile and died 26 Sept 1910 in Mobile.
Dr. Marion Toulmin Gaines, was born July 1869 in Mobile and died 25 Jan 1955 in Mobile.
Both are buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile.

Aristide left Mobile and lived in Galveston, Texas with his second wife Emma Wurzlow. Their children were Inez Eloise (b. 2 Feb 1878; d. 4 July 1903; first wife of Joseph Michael Maurer) and Edwin C. (b. 1881), both born in Galveston, Texas.

Hamelin's father, Peter Felix Hamelin, also relocated to Galveston. There is a Felix "Hamilin" buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile. If this is Aristide's father, his name is spelled incorrectly and there are no dates or other information on the grave stone.

It's possible that Emma died before December, 1888 because there's no record of her (at least this researcher was unable to find any) after the 1881 birth of Edwin.

On 17 Dec 1888, Aristide married Sarah J. Harris in Galveston.

Christening records show Aristide and Sarah's children, both born in Galveston, are Corinne Hope (b. 1889, d. 10 Oct 1910 in Greene, Missouri and Aristide Hamelin, Jr. (b. 1892 in Galveston and died 9 March 1960 in Los Angeles, California. Aristide Jr. was buried at the Los Angeles National Cemetery (formerly Veterans Administration Cemetery) Section 222, Row C, Site 02 (He served in the U. S. Army in WWI.)

City directories in later years listed Hamelin as "Aristide J. B. Hamelin." His son, who wrote his own name as "Aristide H. Hamelin Jr." gave his father's name as "Aristide Joseph Hamelin" on his death certificate.
