OBITUARY

Mrs. Martha Ross
Mrs. Martha Ross died at the home
of L. S. Hemenway, in Horicon on Sat-
turday, September 14, after an illness
of only a few days. Mrs. Martha Barton
was born in Horicon eighty-four years
ago. In 1847 she was married to
Sylvester Ross, and this union con-
tinued unbroken for about fifty years.
In their early married life they re-
sided in Bolton for several years, but
aside from this, her life was spent in
Horicon. When about fourteen years
of age she united with the Horicon
Baptist church, of which she was a
member at the time of her death.
Mrs. Ross, familiarly called "Aunt
Martha" was loved and respected by a
wide circle of relatives and friends.
Her life was one of sterling worth, and
had been ripened through long years
of discipline in the rearing of a large
family amid the conditions of life
which obtained many years ago. when
the lumbering industry furnished the
principal means of livelihood to the
people of the section. The influence
of such a life as was hers, is not eas-
ily estiemated. She is survived by two
sons, Joseph of Alaska, and Judson of
Ticonderoga, and by five daughters,
Mrs L S Hemenway and Mrs Ella
Brownell of Horicon, Mrs Lauro
Wood of Ticonderoga, Mrs Betsey May
of Horicon and Mrs Henry Rising
of Morrisville, and by one sister, Mrs
Charles Davis of Horicon. The Fu-
neral was held from the Horicon Bap-
tist church on Monday, September 16th
and was conducted by the Rev F M
LaBar of Minerva.
