Thomas Edison Lewis, 76, a resident of Electra since 1913, died Saturday night at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born February 8, 1890, in Bellevue, Texas, Lewis was a retired barber, a veteran of World War I and a member of the Electra Volunteer Fire Department for 54 years, he served as president for the Texas State Fireman and Fire Marshals Association for two terms.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the First Methodist Church with the Rev. E.H. Coburn, retired Methodist minister; Rev. Ira Thompson, pastor, and Rev. Jesse Iwig, First Presbyterian minister, officiating.

Burial was in Electra Memorial Park under direction of the James B. Totten and Son Funeral Home. Pallbearers were members of the Electra Volunteer Fire Department, and honorary pallbearers were veterans of World War I and members of the Texas State Fireman and Fire Marshals Association.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae; three sons, Tommy of El Paso, Bill of Ashland and Durward of Electra; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Houtchens of Elliott; a sister, Mrs. Emma Guyewski of Galveston, fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren._
