Jerrel William Carter, 80 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, March 23, 1932 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Davis Carter and Lillian Pink Robertson Carter. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army. Surviving is his wife, Helen Widner Carter; a son, David William Carter, Sr. & wife, Loretta of Bedford; two daughters, Katherine Louise Carter & husband, Randy of Thaxton, Carolyn Sue Carter & husband, Otey of Bedford; a sister, Eleanor Lorene Amos of Bedford as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a special dog, Coco. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Larry Myers & Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. Interment will follow in Peaks Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
