SISTER OF LOCAL WOMAN IS DEAD
Mrs. Lydia Smith, Sister of Mrs. E.H. Baumgartner Buried Today
Mrs. Lydia Smith, 68, died Saturday morning at 1:30 o'clock at the home on South Hackley street, Muncie. Death resulted from a stroke which occurred ten days ago.
The deceased was a daughter of William and Mary (Haley) Metzner, and was born northeast of Portland, in Bearcreek township, April 14, 1873.
On April 11, 1891, she was married to G.W. Smith, former Portland merchant, who preceded her in death, October 21, 1936.
She is survived by one son, Cover Smith, and one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Stewart, both of Muncie. She is also survived by one brother and three sisters, Irvin G. Metzner, of Bryant; Mrs Amanda Axe, of northeast of Portland; Mrs. E.H. Baumgartner, of Berne, and Mrs. Laura Sanders of Yoder.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Muncie Friends church.
Funeral services were conducted from the Meeks chapel this afternoon. Rev. S.E. Saylor, pastor of the Friends church officiated. The body was placed in a crypt at the Elm Ridge cemetery, west of Muncie.
