LAYTON – Edward Morris (Ladd) Scoffield died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the age of 85.

He was born in Ogden, Utah August 10, 1930, the son of Mable Whitesides and Maurice P. Scoffield. He attended Davis County Schools, graduating from Davis High in 1948.

Ladd married Carol Woodard in 1950. They were together 65 years, raising three children: Arlin Ladd (Joni) Scoffield, Julie Carol (Bill) Chilson and Carrie Linn (Bart) Peterson. Ladd was proud of his children, nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was most happy when he outplayed one of them on the golf course.

Active in the community, Ladd was a member and President of the Layton Junior Chamber of Commerce and Commander of the Layton American Legion Post.

President Truman invited him to join the Army in 1950 and then on to Korea. He served two years active duty remaining in the active reserves for a total of 37 years. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a Senior Chief.

Ladd worked at several occupations. He was a Layton City Policeman, Planning Zoning and building administrator for Layton City and St. George City. He served a short time as Supervisor of Maintenance for the hospital at Nellis Air Force Base, in Nevada, then transferring back to Hill Field as a Safety Inspector.

After formally retiring he served on the board of directors and as Secretary and Treasurer of Holmes Creek Irrigation for 18 years. He also enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels until age 83.

Ladd was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions. He especially enjoyed home teaching. Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes when he was younger.

Surviving are his wife; brother, Rudd; his children; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Pauline and Becky; and two great-grandchildren: Carter and Tori.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
