OBITUARY
Walters—Katie Beran, youngest daughter of Frank-Mary Magdalene Beran, was born in Czecho-Slovakia, Jan. 22, 1896, died at her home northeast of Hiawatha, April 28, 1939. Her father died when she was 3 years old, her mother 5 years ago, April 27, 1934. While a small child she came to Brown county, Kansas, with her mother, brothers, sisters. She was married March 16, 1921 to Loyd Walters. To this union 3 children were born, one son, 2 daughters. Two, one son, one daughter, with her parents, 2 sisters, Fanny-Mary, preceded her in death. Her husband, daughter, Elsie May, 2 sisters, Mrs. Rosa Bowen, Mrs. Anne Mraz, 2 brothers, Frank-John Beran, 2 cousins, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, a host of friends survive her. Katie was baptized in infancy, in youth she attended services at Mt. Zion, after her marriage she united with the Bethel Baptist church, when it disbanded her letter was transferred to the First Baptist church of Hiawatha of which she was a member at the time of her death. Her daughters name was placed on the cradle roll of the church. She was a faithful mother, her jolly disposition won her many friends. She was always cheerful, patient under her sickness, during her last hours she often spoke of being ready to meet her Savior in heaven. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 30 at 2:30 at the Mt. Zion church by Rev. J. P. Blackledge, of Hiawatha Baptist church assisted by Rev. Adams of the Mt. Zion Methodist church.
