In 1942, after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. He attended Perry Aviation Institute in Yakima, WA and Bryan Instrumental School in Bryan, TX, graduating as an Advanced Instrumental Flight Instructor. He taught instrumental flying during World War II and was discharged from the Air Force with the rank of staff sergeant. He enlisted in the National Guard in Vivian, LA (1946-1949) and was discharged with the rank of first sergeant.
Bill married Betty Jane Grubbs in 1945. They moved to Rothville, MO in 1949.
Bill began farming and car sales at the Kennedy-Ours Dealership and Jack Banning Ford in Brookfield.
Bill spent his retirement years traveling, hunting and fishing.
He was a past commander of American Legion Post #586 and a member of AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge.
He was a member of Park Baptist Church of Brookfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, A.J. Wilson, Melvin Wilson, and Maxie Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wilson, of the home; two children, Gayle Johnson of Excelsior Springs, MO; and Chuck Wilson of Brookfield, MO; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Wilson of Cotton Valley, LA; and three great-grandchildren.
