Harvey Herbert Buckle was born in Roseburg, Ore., on Oct. 19, 1932. He was the youngest of the 11 children of Thomas Charles Buckle and his wife Molly Leona Buckle.

Harvey grew up on the family farm in Lookingglass, Ore. He attended the one-room school in Lookingglass and graduated from Roseburg High School. As a young man, Harvey learned the body and fender trade from his older brothers. He spent two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Fort Clayton in Panama.

In 1956, Harvey married Ruth Phares Walker. They had three sons Paul, Timothy and John. Harvey graduated with a bachelors of arts degree from Warner Pacific College in 1962. In 1967, Harvey moved his family to Klamath Falls, Ore., where he took a position as sales manager for California Pacific Utilities. He was subsequently an insurance agent before he decided on learning the piano technician trade and starting his piano tuning and repair business. Harvey became known as the "Piano Man" around the Klamath Falls area.

In addition to his business, Harvey was very involved in church activities. He and Ruth started and pastored a congregation in Redmond, Ore., and then became the pastors of Life Community Church in Klamath Falls.
