Ed was born January 11, 1928 in Waterford Township of Ward County, North Dakota the son of Arthur and Sarah Huizenga. He was raised on the family farm in Waterford Township and educated at country schools until he graduated from Minot Model High School in 1946.
During his younger years, Ed was active with the Merchant Marines, sailing around the world serving as an engine repairman for 17 years. He was united in marriage to Shirley Moseng on June 16, 1962 in Velva. They made their home in San Francisco, California where he worked as an Accountant for H & R Block and The University Club, a private men’s club. After retiring, they continued to make their home in San Francisco. Shirley died on October 17, 2005.
Ed loved history and reading and was active with a senior citizen group in the Bay area. He was also an avid sports fan and loved visiting with everyone.
He is survived by his son, Friedrick “Fritz” Huizenga and his wife, Kelly of Santa Clara, CA; brother, Harry Huizenga, Golden, CO; sisters, Alice Cramer, Palatine, IL, Helen Mork, and May Saastad, both of Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Orrie, Leroy and Robert, Sr and a sister, Audrey Huizenga.
