Winfred Jesse Beale was born August 15, 1894, at Gilman, Iowa, the son of Levi G. and Lydia Ann Phelon Beale. He graduated from Gilman High School in 1911. On August 23, 1922, he married Mamie E. Dawson at Waterloo, Iowa.

Red was employed as a driver for the Strand Baking Company for many years, and then owned and operated a resort at Nisswa, Minnesota, before retiring and moving back to Marshalltown 16 years ago. After returning to Marshalltown, Red and Mamie operated a small café next to the Orpheum Theater on the north side of the 200 block of East Main Street.

Mr. Beale was a member of the Methodist Church and the B.P.O.E. (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) Lodge.

Winfred Jesse Beale, 75, formerly of 605 Fremont St., Marshalltown, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 1969, at Marshalltown Manor, where he had resided for several months.

He is survived by a sister, Marie Atkinson, of Marshalltown, and by several nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Arnold, of Albion, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife and by thee sisters and three brothers.

Arrangements were by Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown. Funeral services were at Avey's at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, with Rev. Dr. James K. Delahooke in charge. Pallbearers were Kenneth Arnold, Vinton David, Glenn and Earl Atkinson, Delbert Liming, and Robert Dawson.
