Two families headed by men named Coonrod Anders lived in Amite Co., MS when the U. S. 1850 census was conducted. I assume that the older Coonrod, born about 1779, was the father of the younger Coonrod, born about 1804. So, in the following discussion, I refer to the older as Sr. and the younger as Jr. Although that was probably their relation, I know of no proof.

Separating the two families is sometime difficult because both families lived in Amite Co., MS at the same time and three females with the name "Nancy" were in the two families. Hopefully, the following discussion is helpful.

Coonrod Anders, Sr.
Coonrod Anders, Sr. was born about 1779. He married Nancy (Unknown) about 1803. Nancy was born about 1790. So, she was very young, possibly 13, when they married. Both Coonrod, Sr. and Nancy were born in NC.

Coonrod, Sr. and Nancy Anders had three known children:
Coonrod Anders, Jr., born about 1804 in IL(?)
Green W. Anders, born about 1830 in MS
Nancy Anders, born about 1835 in MS

They probably had other children between 1804 and 1830 that are undocumented.

As noted above, Coonrod Anders, Jr. said, in the 1850 census, that he was born in IL. This is improbable if Coonrod, Sr. and Nancy Anders were his parents. They were born in NC and probably did not move to IL, since much of IL was unceded Indian land at that time.

When the Amite Co., MS 1850 census was conducted on 3 December at the home of Coonrod Anders, Sr., (page 85 of census), residents were Coonrod Anders (71), Nancy Anders (60) (wife), Green Anders (20) and Nancy Anders (15) (daughter). Coonrod, Sr. and his wife, Nancy, said they were born in NC.

When the Amite Co., MS 1860 census was conducted on 11 July at the home of Coonrod Anders, Sr.(page 81 of census), residents were Coonrod Anders (80), Nancy Anders (69), Green Anders (30), Minerva (20) and Alice (4). Coonrod and Nancy said they were born in NC.

I have found no other records on Coonrod, Sr. and his wife, Nancy. They probably remained in Amite Co. and died there before the 1870 census was conducted.

Coonrod Anders, Jr.
Coonrod Anders, Jr., a son of Coonrod Anders, Sr. and Nancy (Unknown), was born about 1804. In the 1850 census, he said he was born in IL. Coonrod, Jr. died about 1860 or later, probably in Jackson Parish.

Coonrod Anders, Jr. was married twice. He married Frances Collinsworth on 20 Jan 1827 in Amite Co., MS. She died on 25 Feb 1846 (See History of Jackson Parish, p. 134). He then married Emily Oshebella Taylor on 31 Jan 1847 in Amite Co. MS. She died on 23 Oct 1910 in Jackson Parish, LA.

When the Amite Co. MS 1850 census was conducted on 22 November at the home of Coonrod Anders, Jr. (page 80 of census), residents were Coonrod Anders (46), Phebe Anders (22), Emulus Anders (21), Martha Anders (21), Nancy Anders (18), Thomas T. Anders (15), John C. Anders (12), William M. Anders (10), Frances A. Anders (6) and Newton H. Anders (1). The second wife of Coonrod Anders, Jr., Emily Oshebella Taylor, was not listed. Coonrod, Jr. said he was born in IL.

Coonrod Anders Jr. moved his family from Amite Co., MS to Jackson Parish, LA after the 1850 census was conducted and before 14 June 1852, as evidenced by the following court record:

"Coonrod Anders, Jr. came to Jackson Parish, LA in 1852 with his second wife, Emily (Taylor) Anders and children. This information is based on the following court record: (Paraphrased) - State of Louisiana - Parish of Jackson - 12th Judicial District Court. The Court appointed Coonrod Anders as natural tutor for his children due to the death of his wife Frances Collinsworth Anders. Minor children were Phoebe, Martha, Nancy, Thomas J., John C., William M., and Frances A. Anders and heirs of their mother, Frances Collinsworth, (Deceased). This 14th day of June A.D. 1852. /S/ B. Sanders, Clerk - I, Robert W. Richardson, Presiding Judge - 12th Dist. Court - State of Louisiana - Parish of Jackson." (History of Jackson Parish, p. 134)
On 1 Sep 1856, Coonrod Anders, Jr. received a patent for two tracts of land, totaling 120 acres, in Jackson Parish, LA.

Coonrod, Jr. and Emily Anders had four children:
Newton Hampshire Anders, born about 1849 in Amite Co., MS
Marinda "Ren" Anders, born 16 Sep 1852 in Jackson Parish, LA
Adam B. Anders, born 25 Dec 1855 in Jackson Parish, LA
Albert G. Anders, born 29 Jan 1861 in Jackson Parish, LA

When the Jackson Parish, LA 1880 census was conducted, Emily Anders was a widow. Residents in her home were: L. E. Anders (49) and a son, A. G. (19). So, Coonrod, Jr. died about 1860 or later, probably in Jackson Parish. I have found no burial site for him.

In the Jackson Parish, LA 1900 census, Albert Anders was listed as single, a farmer and head of the house. His mother, Emily (70), a widow, lived with him.

The Jackson Parish, LA 1910 census shows three persons in the residence of Albert Anders: Albert (48), his wife, Ida (36) and his mother, Emily (80).

Emily (Taylor) Anders died on 23 Oct 1910 and was buried at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Jackson Parish, LA.
