Kathleen “Kay” G. (Collier) Newman passed away at home on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the age of 92 while under care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 12, 1924, she was a lifelong resident of the Echota area. Kathleen was the daughter of Daisy (Mills) Collier and George Collier, who came to this country from England in the early 1900’s.
Kay attended local schools and during World War II was employed at Bell Aircraft as an airplane inspector. She loved family gatherings, painting, gardening, being outdoors and enjoying trips to Allegany State Park and other places. She also enjoyed school and sporting events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed for her kind heart, generous & caring nature and her devotion to her family.
Kay was a devoted wife to her husband, John G. Newman, who predeceased her on May 9, 2015 at the age of 90 after 66 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 daughters, Priscilla Dolling (late Robert) of N. Tonawanda, Barbara Hogan (late Patrick) of Wheatfield and Jill Downie (Brian) of Wheatfield.
She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Keith (Jill) Dolling, Kristin (Greg) Human, Heather (Phillip) Pawlukovich, Stacey (Brian) Markovich, Erin Hogan, Ashley (Michael) Baxter, Branden Downie, Garrett Downie, Kyle Downie and Kelsey Downie 10 great-grandchildren: Phillip, Maddison, Isabella, & Alexandria Pawlukovich, Logan & Heidi Dolling, Noah & Landon Human and Neven & Reinier Markovich. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her late parents and husband, Kay was predeceased by a brother Frederick “Bud” Collier and three sisters, Norah Mangold, Violet Bowman and Ivy Koepke.
Family will be present Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 8622 Buffalo Avenue where funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
