Son of Levin and Sophia Barnett Oliver.
The Oliver family moved to Fannin County, TX. from Lyon County, KY. about 1843.
Robert enlisted in Co. C, 22nd Texas Cavalry C.S.A. on Dec. 14, 1861 at Honey Grove, TX. at the age of 23.
He was described as 5' 8" tall with red hair and blue eyes on service records.
Robert's nephew James A. "Jim" Cummins also served in this company of cavalry raised in Fannin Co.
Robert died on Sept. 15, 1862 while in Confederate service, cause unspecified in records.
