There is no L. York in this company. There are two Yorks that are possibilities:

E. N. [Elisha Newton] York of Co F, 52nd GA. He died 27th June 1862 in Atlanta, GA.

Jonathan C. York of Co F, 52nd GA. He died 23rd June 1862 in Atlanta, GA. Jonathan has a marker just a few stones away from "L."

It is believed that Elisha Newton "Lisha" YORK enlisted in Company F, Georgia 52nd Infantry Regiment on 04 Mar 1862 to fight for the Confederacy. A possible assignment for Elisha may have been in Fort Pulaski, Georgia.

Fort Pulaski, built by the U.S. Army before the war, is located on the Georgia South Carolina coastline near the mouth of the Savannah River, blocking upriver access to Savannah. The fort was captured and occupied by the CSA troops. The Port Royal Expeditionary Force’s Fort Pulaski investment troops [US]were engaged by Gen Sherman to recapture the Fort Pulaski Garrison [CSA]. Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Sherman ordered Captain Quincy A. Gillmore , an engineer officer[US], to take charge of the investment force and begin the bombardment and recapture of Fort Pulaski. Gillmore placed artillery on the mainland southeast of the fort and began the bombardment on April 10, 1862, after Colonel Charles H. Olmstead [CSA] refused to surrender the fort. Within hours, Gillmore began engaging the new rifled artillery that breached the southeast scarp of the fort. Gillmore continued to exploit it with intensive bombardment on 11 April 1862 . After serious damage to the garrison, Olmstead surrendered in the afternoon 2:00 pm on April 11 with a Union victory. Estimated casualties were 365 total (US 1; CSA 364).

Elisha is not found after the 1860 U S Census and presumed lost following the Battle of Fort Pulaski from lingering wounds he received. He died on 27 June 1862 perhaps in a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
