Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with Rev. Scott Mayer and Rev. Rosemary P. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Mr. Barton was born on August 23, 1924 in West, TX, where he graduated from high school. He was a self-employed restaurateur, having been involved with Lavender's Cafeteria, which later became Barton's Cafeteria, and most recently with Burger King. He moved to Abilene from Fort Worth in 1958.
He married Ernesteen Wallace in Lubbock on February 8, 1946. Mr. Barton was a member of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, Texas Restaurant Association, and the Abilene Country Club. He was a former member of Southwest Rotary Club in Abilene. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.
In addition to his wife of Abilene, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ellen and Mark Savage of Indianapolis, IN; a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick E. and Joann Barton of Abilene; a son-in-law, Ron J. English of Abilene; a brother, August Barton of Waco; an aunt, Lillian Pendleton of West, TX; and five grandchildren – Cynthia Tesch, Kimberly English, Jonathan Barton, Angela Barton, and Brian Barton.
