"D. M. Rench, a well known and respected resident of Pleasant Mound and a brother of Mrs. W. L. Floyd of this city, passed away at his home at 8:30 p.m. Monday following an illness of one week from flu-pneumonia. This was said to have been Mr. Rench's first illness of any consequence. He enjoyed the best of health and had always been very active.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Brethren church in Pleasant Mound, the Rev. N. H. Miller of Decatur, the Rev. D. J. Blickenstaff of Oakley and the
Rev. Noble Bollinger of Mt. Morris, a former pastor of the Pleasant Mound church, officiating. Interment was made at the Noffsinger cemetery. The pall bearers were Frank
Cripe, Schuyler Dickson, Alfred Redenbo, Thomas Mayo, N. Hudson and Jeff Sapp. David M. Rench was born May 27, 1851 in Delaware county, Indiana, and was aged 79 years,
eight months and 12 days at the time of his death. He was the son of Jonathan and Susanne Mumpher Rench. On August 28, 1879 he was married to Mahala Jane Pugh, in Fayette
county, the Rev. Henry Jones performing the ceremony. To this union were born seven children, three of whom have preceded their father in death. Surviving his are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Redenbo of near Pleasant Mound, and three sons, Roy and Cleve Rench of near Pleasant Mound and Floyd Rench of Smithboro.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother, Jos. Rench of Smithboro, and one sister, Mrs. W. L. Floyd of this city. Mr. Rench was a devout Christian and a member of the Brethren church of Pleasant Mound, being baptized in the faith Sept. 12, 1891. He served his church and Christ in every way
possible, having in previous years been superintendent of the Sunday School and for more than 35 years he had been a deacon and trustee of the Brethren church as well as a
trustee of the Noffsinger cemetery. He was never quite so happy as when he could attend Sunday School and church services and "Uncle Dave" as he was familiarly called, will be greatly missed by those who were accustomed to seeing him in his place at the church every Sunday morning. During his illness on January 25, he called for the elders of the church and was anointed, and
although he wanted to live longer that he might be more useful, he was perfectly resigned to the will of God."
