On October 15, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to John Raymond Beatty in Clayton County. During their marriage they began farming near Wood Center. Eleven children were born to this union. John Raymond died in 1978 and Mary continued living on the farm until three years ago when she went to the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Mary enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and animals, especially cats and dogs. She loved visiting with people and working with flowers.
Survivors include seven children, Clyde (Marsha Carpenter) Beatty of Tipton, Donna Kluesner of Peosta, Linda Talbert of Monticello, Carol Beatty of Dyersville, Betty (Dan) Altoff of Colesburg, Emery (Jeannie) Beatty of Elkader, and Etta (Randy Janssen) Beatty of Fairbank; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd (Linda) Forsythe of Greeley, and Eddie Forsythe of Garber; and one sister, Evelyn Bottleman of Edgewood.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Raymond on May 25, 1978; three daughters, Cynthia Hyde, Bonnie Sue Beatty, and Rose Mary Beatty; one son, Gerald Lynn Beatty; three brothers, Willis, Emmett, and Lloyd Forsythe; and two sisters, Lucy Brewer and Mildred Forsythe.
