28 November 2004
Rosemary P. Gibson, our dear wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went to Heaven on Friday, November 26, 2004. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully at her home in Oshkosh surrounded by her family. Rosemary was born on March 17, 1932 to John and Priscilla (Ringling) Snell. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950. On April 14, 1951, she married Joseph P. Gibson in Oshkosh.
Family and faith were the most important things in Rosemary's life. She felt truly blessed to have spent 53 years of marriage with her best friend, Joe. Rosemary was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her five sons and their families. She so looked forward to the times when her whole family could be together, sharing each other's company. Rosemary was an active member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. She especially enjoyed the Wednesday mornings she spent with her dear friends in her Spirituality group. Rosemary was a truly special person who will be remembered for many things, including the wonderful decorations she displayed for all of the holidays; her beautiful flower gardens; making the best Christmas cutouts ever; giving great Grandma Rosie hugs; her young joyful spirit; and most importantly, the many acts of kindness she performed for others.
Rosemary is survived by her beloved husband, Joe; five sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Barb Gibson of Oshkosh; Steve and Diane Gibson of Mapleton, Illinois; Dan and Debbie Gibson of Pickett; Tim and Paula Gibson of Appleton; and Chris and Carol Gibson of De Pere; her eight grandchildren, Rob, Matt, Jessica, Jacob, Ben, Zach, Nicholas and Chloe. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Elsie Knoblock and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Elaine Gibson and Jim and Phyllis Gibson, all of Oshkosh, nieces, nephews, many good friends and her dog, Annie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Priscilla Snell, her sister, Betty Beck, her father-in-law, Joseph Gibson, Sr., and two brothers-in-law, Robert Burdick and Earl Beck.
Friends may call at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2004. A celebration of Rosemary's life will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Fr. Dan Felton officiating. Entombment will be in Lake View Mausoleum. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the St. Raphael Catholic Church LifeTeen Program.
A special thank you to daughters-in-law Barb and Debbie; and Sue and the health care providers from Affinity Hospice for their loving care of Rosemary during her illness. The family also sincerely appreciates the personal visits made by Dr. Kevin Green and Fr. Dan Felton. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same.
