Bodie Messer Jr.

Bodie Messer, Jr., age 80, of Barbourville, KY died 10/17/15 at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY. Bodie was born the son of the late Bodie, Sr. and Ethel Johnson Messer on December 2, 1934.Bodie retired from CSX after over 20 years of service. He was also a Korean War Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Leon Messer, his brother Bobby Leon Messer, sister-in-law Roberta Messer, half-sister Margaret Mullins, father-in-law and mother-in-law Reid and Gladys Disney, a brother-in-law Albert Mills and nephew Russell Messer. On November the 3rd 1954 he united in marriage to Bobbie Disney Messer and to this union three sons were born. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Bobbie Disney Messer, and his three sons Tony B. Messer and wife Susan of Knoxville, TN, Gary L. Messer and wife Debbie of New Mexico and Brian Messer of Barbourville, KY. He is survived by his grandchildren: Angie Alexander and husband Kenny, Robert Messer and wife Liana, Walter Messer and wife Heather, Stephanie Groesbeck and husband Jim, Isaac Messer and wife Emily, Matt Messer and wife Riyam, Rebecca Tinker and husband Adam, Sarah Crocker and husband Ben, Jake Messer and Gabe Messer.He is survived by his greatgrandchildren: David, Noah, AJ, Arianna, Hannah and Felicity. Funeral Services for Bodie Messer, Jr. will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev.Duke Hammons and Rev. Fred Disney, officiating. Burial will follow at the family’s home in Barbourville with grandsons, nephews and other family members serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be CSX employees and the doctors and nurses of the VA and UKMC. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home.
