2010 obituary. SCARBOROUGH -- Phyllis (Barter) Crichton, 84, of North Yarmouth, went to be home with Jesus on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Phyllis was born in Gorham on Feb. 6, 1926 to Roy N. and Myra M. (Lovell) Barter. The family moved to North Yarmouth when Phyllis was five and she spent the rest of her life in North Yarmouth. After graduating from business school, Phyllis worked as a secretary. While raising her family, she enjoyed caring for children in her home. Her love for children carried over into years serving as a Sunday school teacher and as leader for numerous other children's programs. For several years Phyllis was the Portland newspaper's correspondent, providing news from the town of North Yarmouth. Later in life, she contributed historical information to the North Yarmouth Historical Society. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, George A. Crichton, in 1978. She is survived by her five children. She also leaves behind two sisters; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Road, Portland.
