Joseph Samuel "Joe" Akin, 63, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005.

Mr. Akin was born Oct. 27, 1941, at Cairo, Ga. to the late David Clayton "D.C." Akin and the late Ruth Wheeler Akin. He was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church, Exchange Bank, Griffin Elks Club and Georgia Retired Educators.

Survivors include his wife Shirley H. Akin of Griffin; twin brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Audrey Akin of Milledgeville; an aunt and uncle, Charles and Lucille Wheeler of Alto; two nephews, Butch Jones of Charleston, S.C., and Lee Jones of North Augusta, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Elvin Jones of Aiken, S.C.
