Sunshine "Sunnye" Ellison, 90, died Monday in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be today at 1:00 p.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Reverend Greg Kennedy of St. Paul United Methodist Church officiating under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ellison was born in Mineral Wells, TX and moved to Abilene as a young girl. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1935 and worked for the Citizens National Bank and several doctors in the Abilene area. Sunnye was a long time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Sunnye loved people and animals, especially her cats. She also loved gardening and beautiful things. She will be remembered for her kind nature, generosity, and Holiday Spirit that lasted all year round.

Sunnye Ellison was preceded in death by her parents Ira J. Allen, Sr. and Eltha Bantau Allen; a son, David P. Ellison; a sister, Virginia Arey; and a brother, Ira J. Allen, Jr.

Sunnye is survived by her husband, Garland N. Ellison of Abilene; grandsons: Bryon D. Ellison of Austin and Brandon Lee Ellison of Abilene; nieces: Barbara Allen of Irving and Ann Wagner & husband John of Abilene; Nephew, James R. Allen; sister-in-law, Doris Allen of Oklahoma; and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Ellison of Abilene; and other nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to: Rescue the Animals, 4620 North Ist or Hendrick Hospice Care, 1900 Pine Street, both located in Abilene, TX.
