Newton Anderson Cypert

Newton Anderson Cypert was born October 14, 1820, in Wayne Co, Tennessee, the son of John William Cypert and Nancy Anderson.

Newton married Nancy Elizabeth Cooper about 1843, in Tennessee. It is thought that Nancy's father was a Methodist minister, and that she had a sister who married a James, and at least two brothers; one named Jasper Cooper and one named Samuel Cooper, one of whom was a Circuit Judge in Arkansas.

Newton and Nancy moved their family to Arkansas, about 1851. They settled in Stone County. Nancy died at Timbo, in Stone County, on March 4, 1860. She is buried in Blue Mtn. Cemetery at Timbo.

Newton married Mrs. Dorthena M. E. "Thina" (Thompson) Shipman about 1862, in Arkansas. Thina (Thompson) Shipman was born in 1833, in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter of Tidings Thompson and his first wife, Elender King. Newton's sister, Mary Cypert, was Tidings Thompson's second wife, and Thina was her step-daughter, and a step-niece to Newton. Thina's first husband was Matthew Shipman. They had three children: (1) Mary Ann Shipman, b. 1854, AR, who married William Francis George; (2) Jane Shipman, b. 1855, AR; and (3) James Shipman, b. 1861, AR.

Newton died in 1905, at Timbo, in Stone County. He is buried in Blue Mtn. Cemetery.
