Byron McCombs Thurman

Highland, UT – Byron McCombs Thurman was born on Aug 26, 1926 to Ray Stewart and Lucy Luvilla McCombs Thurman at Grover, WY. He was the 9th of 15 children. He passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct 15, 2015, of causes due to age. He is survived by his 5 daughters, Leslie Hillstrom (Jeff), Susan Thurman (Deb), Lucinda Kasen (John), Reita Pearson (Curt), Nancy Gillespie (Barry), 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Byron grew up on a dairy farm in Grover, WY. He graduated from Star Valley High School in 1945. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from Feb 1945-Nov 1946. After returning to Star Valley from serving in the Pacific, he married Gayle Hillyard of Auburn, Wyoming on Aug 12, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Soon after they were married, Byron served a 2 year LDS mission in Central California. In 1958 Byron, Gayle and their 3 daughters moved to Orange County, CA. Byron started working for Sav-On Drug Stores where he was employed for 29 years. He and Gayle served 2 senior missions. Gayle passed away Jan 4, 1997. He was married to Yvonne Sanderson from Mar 6, 1999 until she passed away on June 24, 2010.
Byron loved participating in and watching sports, particularly BYU. Byron lived a life of devoted service to his family, friends, neighbors and his Savior. His passion was gardening and he loved sharing the fruits of his labors.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church 11162 North Alpine Hwy, Highland, UT. Viewings will be Friday, October 23 from 7-9 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Lone Peak, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland and Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
