Floyd was born in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Alice Olson Williams. Floyd came to Salem in 1937. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
In the 1950s, Floyd married Frieda Duerksen and they moved to a small farm on Spring Valley Road in West Salem. They adopted a daughter, Linda, and Floyd began working for Scharff Brothers Construction where he was employed until retirement.
Frieda became ill with cancer, and they sold the farm and moved to the Salemtowne retirement community. Frieda died in 1983. A neighbor of Floyd's, Aileen Rinehart, had been widowed about the same time and they were married in 1985.
Thus began the happiest years in Floyd's life: golf and pool with the guys at Salemtowne, and travel with Aileen, eventually wintering at a home in Arizona. As Aileen's health declined, Floyd cared for her at home as long as possible. When she had to move to Orchard Heights assisted living, he spent nearly every day with her until Aileen's passing in 2012.
Some of Floyd's Salemtowne friends had moved to Avamere Court in Keizer and he made the decision to join them.
Survivors include: sister, Eva Kessel, Salem; daughter, Linda Cherry, Salem; stepsons, Randy Rinehart, AZ/WA, and Richard Rinehart, Portland; and three step-grandchildren.
Private interment, Spring Valley Cemetery.
