LINDSAY — Janice I. Herchenbach, 86, of Lindsay died Saturday, Oct.. 10, 2015, at Albion.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay with Rev. James F. Novotny presiding over the services. Interment is in Holy Family Cemetery.
Janice was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Platte County the daughter of Gilbert F. and Leota (Mueting) Melcher. She graduated from Platte Center Public School.
On April 24, 1951, Janice and Louis P. Herchenbach were united in marriage at Scared Heart Catholic Church in Cornlea. Together they farmed and raised their family near St. Bernard and in 1991 built a home and retired in Lindsay.
She was a member of the Holy Family Guild, Sewing Ladies and numerous card clubs. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and baby sitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are children Daryl (Sue) Herchenbach of Lindsay, LuAnn (Mike) Carraher of Grand Island, Dee (Steve) Pfeifer of Lindsay, Sally (Mark) Korth of Humphrey; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Melcher; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Melcher, Nancy Melcher, Elda Hemmer, Mary (Ivan) VanDyke and Deloris Herchenbach; and brother-in-law, Jerry (Darlene) Herchenbach.
Preceding her in death were parents, husband, Louis on Nov. 10, 1999; brothers, Dennis and Imelda Melcher, Delwin Melcher, Glen Melcher; sister-in-law, LInda Melcher; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Emmet and Iona Dempsey, Mark and Kay Herchenbach, Wilfred and Romana Hemmer, Gene Herchenbach and Lee Hemmer.
