Funeral services for Elbert Phillips, 85, of Muskogee, OK, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Timothy Baptist Church with Reverend Kelly Payne officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael Marks, Danny Bolling, Tommy Godfrey, Steve Hallum, Jason Cook, and Aaron Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Milne, Ray Phillips, Wesley Lewis, Darrell Cantwell, and Michael Phillips. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.

Elbert was born March 16, 1930 at East Vaughn, New Mexico the son of Roy and Fannie Mae (Thompson) Phillips and died Monday, October 12, 2015 in Muskogee.

On August 8, 1952 he married his best friend and partner, Ruthie Godfrey in Elm Grove.

Elbert served his country in the U. S. Army.

Prior to retirement, he worked for the City of Muskogee as a foreman on the street department. He was a member of Timothy Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie of the home; two children, Michael Wayne Phillips and Teresa Louise Hallum both of Muskogee; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ray Phillips of Vian, OK. He was preceded in death by his brothers, LeRoy, Sam, and Buddy; sisters, Dorothy, Margaret, and Beulah.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in Elbert’s name to be made to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 500 N. Broadway, Suite 250, Oklahoma City, OK, 73102 or www.us.org.
