Werter J. Craig was born in Washington Twp., Preble County, Ohio, the son of Robert & Tabitha Elizabeth (Bierly) Craig.

He lived in West Manchester, Ohio, where he farmed. He was a Veteran, serving in the Spanish American War - Ohio Pvt. 6th Regiment Troop "D", Cavalry, between July 5, 1901 and July 4, 1904, when he was honorably discharged at Ft. Mead, S. D. (U.S.A., Cuba, Philippians, Puerto Rico 1898-1900).

He was married on June 15, 1905, Preble County, Ohio to Grace B. (Pierson) Craig who died August 11, 1936, and is buried at Verona Cemetery. They had one child, Dorothy.

He died September 1, 1951 in Lewisburg, Preble County, Ohio, at the age of 68 years 2 months 9 days old, and was interned on September 6, 1951 Sec.4, Lot #4 Grave# 1.

Werter J. Craig

W. J. (Buzz) Craig, 68-years-old Spanish American war veteran, was found dead in his bed at the Central Hotel here Saturday night. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Craig, a native of the community, had been living at the hotel for about a month since returning from the Dayton Veteran's hospital where he had undergone treatments. He had also resided in Richmond, Ind., and Lewisburg.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton, Salem Avenue, Dayton. Mrs. Hamilton is at Hamilton's Lodge, Sugar Island, Sault St. Marie, Mich., this summer.

The body was removed to the Barnes funeral home and arrangements are pending word from the daughter.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Barnes funeral home with Rev. C.J. Bradbury officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery and friends may call at the funeral home.
