JOHN H. COCHRAN, JR.
John H. Cochran, Jr., 71, moved to Nolan County with his parents at the age of 16 years. His family bought a ranch in the Decker Community, but he came to Sweetwater to work in the law office of Beall and Beall. Mr. Cochran studied law and was later elected Nolan County Attorney. He held this position for four years before being elected Nolan County Judge. He served as county judge for eight years. During his tenure, the county courthouse was built.
In 1901, he married Nina Cowen who preceded him in death.
After retiring from the legal profession, Judge Cochran moved to the ranch in the Decker community where he lived until moving to Sweetwater in 1946. Since 1918, he had owned Beall Abstract Company. Judge Cochran was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, and the First Christian Church.
Services were held in the First Christian church.
Survived by three daughters, Mrs. Tommie Lee Jackson, Miss Anna Mae Cochran, Mrs. Ralph Piper and four grandsons.
