A.V. of Springmoor Retirement Community died following a brief illness. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1935 and began a forty year career in Agricultural Extension Service. He served in the U.S. Army in Patton's Third Army and in the Reserves where he attained the rank of Colonel. Following WWII Mr. Allen brought his family to Raleigh in order to earn a Master's Degree at NCSU. He joined the faculty of the Animal Husbandry Extension Service at N.C. State in 1950 and served as Specialist in Charge from 1965 to 1975. Following his retirement he worked part time for the N.C. Cattleman's Association for several years.
Mr. Allen was devoted to his family, to his friends and to his community. He was married for 52 years to Marian Lundy Allen who died in 1989. He was a member of Fairmont United Methodist Church from its beginning and served the church in various capacities. He was in the Raleigh Exchange Club and after moving to Springmoor was active in community life there, chairing the activities committee for many years. He enjoyed golf and gardening, having a special interest in roses.
He is survived by his daughter, Julia Allen, his son and daughter-in- law Alex and Betsy Allen; and grandchildren, Rob Allen and Katie Allen, all of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by granddaughters Ashley Duncan and Caroline Allen.
