Myrtle was my great grandmother. My mom, JoAnn, enjoyed having her as a grandmother. She told stories of how grandma Mertie was a spit fire little woman. She had polio at the age of 5 and as a result, her right leg was smaller than the other. She had to use crutches for the rest of her life, but she didn't let that stop her. Mom told stories of how she used them to kill off snakes to protect her chickens. Grandma Mertie tried to hide her small leg in pictures, but if you look closely, you can see it. She passed a month before I was born, but I sure would have loved to have met her. - Sarah
