World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Bury, Lancashire, England, he served as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, British Army. During the Battle of Loos near Hulluch, France, on September 25, 1915, the 2nd Battalion was ordered to retreat and reorganize. Private Peachment, seeing a wounded officer lying in the open, crawled to assist him. Under heavy German fire he knelt in the open by the officer and tried to help him. Private Peachment was first wounded by rifle fire to the chest, then a bullet hit him in the head and killed him. For most conspicuous bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on November 18, 1915.
