Funeral services for Myrtle Corrine Drahn, 86, of Monona, were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa, with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Pallbearers were Brad Orvis, Troy Hanson, Joel Hanson, Chad Klatt, John Waddle, Mike Larson, Brian Schatz, Chuck Rodas, and Harry Myers. Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 18, 1916, in Forest Mills, Iowa, daughter of Ovril and Mary (Amundson) Gilson. Myrtle graduated from the Waukon High School. She taught country school, was past president of the retired teachers association, past president of the Monona Garden Club, and an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Myrtle enjoyed gardening, reading cooking, playing cards, and especially loved her family.
She was united in marriage to "Pete" Drahn on June 17, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon. Three daughters were born to this union. She died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon, following a long illness.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Vern) Orvis-Walter, Elkader, Linda (Lanny) Scheffert, Monona, and Susan (Dan) Hanson, Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Norm) Aldridge , Las Vegas, Nev., and Norma (Vance) Rosell, Decorah; and one brother, Lawrence (Irene) Gilson, Eitzen, Minn.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete on August 11, 1991; two brothers, John Gilson and Dale Gilson, and two sisters, Carol Reeder and Dolores Steiner.
